Kurs: Interculture@interaction, Frankrike 14-21 april

INTERCULTURE@INTERACTION has been created in order to answer the difficulties faced by youth exchange projects promoters in giving their projects an intercultural dimension.

INTERCULTURE@INTERACTION is proposing to explore the different components of the intercultural field, to understand them, but also and above all to confront them concretely, therefore the idea of “interaction”. For that purpose, the international composition of the group allow to experience actively the intercultural issue, to understand and implement what is much more than a simple question in application forms (cf.: What is the intercultural dimension of your project?).

INTERCULTURE@INTERACTION 2007 will have a particular «taste». The course will deal with the question “intercultural dimension and local impact” or “how to articulate the question of international cultural diversity with the local identity of a territory”.

Aim
To reinforce the quality of Youth Exchange projects by encouraging a better consideration of their intercultural dimension.

Objectives

• To create a space of intercultural experience and confrontation.
• To train upon concepts of Intercultural Learning.
• To provide with methodological tools for intercultural approach in non formal education.
• To raise awareness about international teamwork and partnership work
• To make visible the philosophical and political challenges of the European Youth in Action Programme in its intercultural dimension
• To reflect upon the intercultural quality of participants’ past and ongoing youth exchange projects.
• To explore the local identity of a territory in order to better understand intercultural processes at international level.

Some elements of programme

• Inputs on the different intercultural concepts: Multi-/inter-culturalism, stereotypes and prejudices, ethnocentrism,…
• Perceptions and representations
• Intercultural approach of teamwork and partnership
• Intercultural communication (linguistic, verbal/non-verbal, strategies,…)
• Intercultural issue and local identity : food habits, architecture, environment, traditions
• The intercultural dimension of a youth exchange project
• Intercultural conflict management.
• Perspectives of the new YOUTH IN ACTION Programme in its intercultural dimension

Méthodology

• Active and interactive approach : Role plays, simulation games, concrete situations, practical experimentation
• Interaction within the international group and with local population
• Theoretical inputs.
• Analysis of project practices

Profile of participants
Organisers and youth leaders in youth exchange projects in the frame of YOUTH and YOUTH IN ACTION, with already a field experience in youth international encounters.
Having an ongoing or coming project would be wished.

English (some support in French might be possible)
